Cracks (Lava Sculpture): Hawaii is geologically new, and this work reminds me of 'Pahoehoe', one of two principal types of cooled lava.
'Pahoehoe' (in contrast to a’a) is fluid forming, smooth basaltic lava that is sculpted into ropy folds. It resembles pancake batter poured into a pan.
This piece acknowledges the heat of lava and the unique sculpture once it cools.
This piece can be used in many locations. Over the coffee pot or espresso machine, or as an accent piece with a spotlight.
